Position Summary

WWAY-TV is seeking a motivated, results-driven Event Account Executive (AE) responsible for generating revenue through the sale of WWAY events, sponsorships, and integrated promotional opportunities.

The Event AE will work closely with both the News and Sales teams to identify prospects, sell event sponsorships, develop customized packages, and grow revenue from WWAY’s events, community initiatives, and special programs.

 

Key Responsibilities

Event & Sponsorship Sales

· Sell sponsorships for WWAY events, expos, community initiatives, promotions, and special events.

· Prospect new businesses and identify opportunities within existing WWAY accounts.

· Develop and present customized sponsorship packages.

· Meet or exceed assigned event revenue goals.

· Maintain an active pipeline and consistently prospect, follow up, and close business.

· Identify opportunities to turn event sponsors into long-term WWAY advertisers.

News & Sales Collaboration

· Work with the News team to identify appropriate sponsorship opportunities connected to community initiatives, special projects, and events.

· Work with the Sales team to identify clients and prospects that are a strong fit for sponsorship opportunities.

· Collaborate with Account Executives and management to create packages that provide value to advertisers.

· Help develop opportunities that connect businesses with WWAY’s trusted local audience and community presence.

Integrated Marketing

· Identify opportunities to combine event sponsorships with television, digital, streaming/OTT, social media, and other WWAY products.

· Develop packages that extend a sponsor’s exposure before, during, and after an event.

· Work with internal teams to ensure all sponsorship commitments are delivered.

Client & Community Relationships

· Build and maintain strong relationships with sponsors, advertisers, and community partners.

· Represent WWAY professionally at events and community functions.

· Conduct post-event follow-up to demonstrate value and identify renewal opportunities.

Qualifications

· 7+ years of sales, advertising, sponsorship, media, marketing, or business development experience preferred.

· Proven ability to prospect and generate new business.

· Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and closing skills.

· Comfortable making outbound calls and asking for the sale.

· Highly organized with excellent follow-through.

· Creative, energetic, and relationship-focused.

· Ability to work effectively with multiple departments.

· Knowledge of the Wilmington/Cape Fear business community preferred.

· Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events.

Performance Metrics

Success will be measured by:

· Event sponsorship revenue

· New sponsors acquired

· Sponsorship renewals

· New business development

· Sales pipeline and activity
